Senior Management
 

Thomas M. Shannon, Chief Executive Officer, Director - Mr. Shannon assumed the position of CEO in May 2002. He has over 25 years of business experience, much of it in senior level positions. In 1996, he founded Shamrock Partners, the lead investment group in Prodesse’s initial funding in 2002. From 1997-2001 he acquired and was CEO of three regional transportation companies in Nebraska and Florida, selling his majority interest in 1999. Prior to that, Mr. Shannon held a variety of senior level management positions in sales and general management as a registered principal for Equitable and its subsidiaries, including Alliance Capital and Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette. Earlier in his career, Mr. Shannon founded and was President of Shannon Financial Associates, Inc. He holds a BBA from the University of Wisconsin and earned the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Chartered Financial Consultant (CHFC) credentials.

Andrew M. Shrago, Senior Vice President, Sales and Chief Marketing Officer - Mr. Shrago joined Prodesse in May 2002. Prior to that, he ran his own management consulting business, specializing in services operations, market research and strategy development. He was employed from 1984-1999 by Datex-Ohmeda in general management, marketing, business development and financial positions. He has negotiated several major agreements with business partners in the medical devices field. Early in his career, Mr. Shrago held a variety of financial management positions with PPG Industries, Inc. He holds an MBA from the University of Chicago and a BA from Cornell University.

Steven R. Visuri, PhD, Chief Science Officer - Dr. Visuri joined Prodesse in July 2003. Previously, he was a Senior Research Scientist and Group Leader in the Medical Technology Program at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He has worked extensively in the areas of clinical medicine and homeland security, most recently leading major programs involving the use of microfluidic-based instrumentation for performing automated immunologic and nucleic acid assays. Dr. Visuri has several patents issued and pending along with numerous journal articles and conference presentations in these areas of research. He received his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees from Northwestern University in Biomedical Engineering and his B.S. degree from Marquette University in Electrical Engineering.

David J. Tyler, Vice President, Operations - Mr. Tyler joined Prodesse in November 2004. Previously, he was Director of Manufacturing at Third Wave Technologies, a molecular diagnostics manufacturer. He has extensive manufacturing and operational experience developing, automating and optimizing sequencing, oligonucleotide synthesis, small molecule discovery and real-time PCR testing platforms at Gorilla Genomics, Lawrence Berkeley Laboratories and SureCide Technologies. Prior to that, Mr. Tyler conducted research and trained in medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.   He received an M.S. degree in Microbiology and Infectious Disease and a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley.

Karen M. Harrington, PhD, Clinical Laboratory Manager - Dr. Harrington joined Prodesse in August of 2002 as a Research Scientist and was appointed Manager of the Clinical Reference Laboratory in January 2003. Her previous research efforts focused on the immunology of infectious diseases and vaccine development. She has also worked as a Research Specialist at Yerkes National Primate Research Center at Emory University. Dr. Harrington received her Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA and her B.S. degree in Biology from Marquette University.

Michael L. Mihalov, MD, Medical Director - Dr. Mihalov began serving as Medical Director in 2004 to oversee Prodesse's regional clinical reference laboratory activities. He has extensive experience in molecular pathology, having worked in the field since the late 1980s. In addition, as Chairman of Pathology and Director for the Medical Laboratory of a major medical center in Chicago as well as being a CAP auditor, Dr. Mihalov will be able to advise Prodesse how best to meet the challenges faced by its clinical laboratory customers. His talents have been recognized by many of the leading diagnostics companies in the world as he has repeatedly received funding from them to perform numerous studies. Dr. Mihalov was awarded his medical degree from Loyola University Medical School (Maywood, IL) and his undergraduate degree from Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL). He has authored many papers and has lectured extensively on topics related to molecular pathology.
